It is with great excitement (I am writing this at around 1.30 am when I am usually asleep) that I announce our blog has reached 50 subscribers!!!!!!!
If youβre only here for that announcement, I guess the most important thing I want to say in this entire post is *THANK YOU*.
Thank you for taking the initial effort to type in your email address and hit subscribe. Some of you even became paid subscribers and Iβve dutifully saved every bit of your paid subscriptions toward a larger project.
It would be amazing for Adjoaβs perspective to grow to 500 subscribers in 2024 but regardless of whether we reach that number, my focus this year is on providing you with quality.
I am so incredibly grateful for each and every one of you (according to my analytics, weβre a community spanning across MULTIPLE countries - see map below).
I appreciate you opening the emails from me. Because one thing about it, emails do not always elicit enthusiasm and smiles. Including from me. Oh the torment they can bring! But I do hope my emails to you have not created such a reaction.
One of my unrealised strengths according to a test I took in 2023 is writing. Now this did not come as a complete surprise to me because I have loved writing since I was a little girl. However, as a high-performing university student, I focused on writing for an academic audience. I would ensure my paragraphs were carefully and persuasively crafted to leave no room for any doubt in the markerβs mind but to award me a HD. And it worked, most of the time. For which I am grateful.
But now as an adult in this big wide world, writing has become a way for me to reclaim the creativity and freedom that writing gave me as a child.
Do you want to know what I wrote about as a little girl?
Of course you do!! I wrote about β¦
Well I canβt exactly remember the details but all I know was that I would write short stories that were very on that make believe type of vibe. I had no desire to make them realistic and I certainly did not restrict myself to any kind of technical writing rules.
But yes, returning to writing as an adult has been most special and it almost feels like this is what Iβm meant to do in life. I would like to devote more time to it in 2024.
I just now did a quick google search for creative writing structure, and apparently it includes the following:
βexposition, rising action, climax, falling action, resolution, dΓ©nouement, and themes.β
That sounds much like adult life (Iβd like more of the resolution part in 2024 please and thank you!)

There are many incredible blogs here on the Substack platform which inspire me, and two amazing ones Iβm subscribed to include:
β§ For Better Or Worse: Tales From A Married Man written by Solomon aka Suli Breaks, a husband, father and professional writer and spoken word poet. Turns out Iβve been subscribed for longer than I originally thought. You should know that I am a lover girl and so I love creators who talk about relationships (all kinds!)
does do a pretty spectacular job of taking us through the highs and lows of what real relationships look like.β§ In the Presence Of written by Disney Hall, a multi-hyphenate queen who professionally writes and produces, among other things. I subscribed in 2023 and instantly found a sense of home. I exhaled every time I opened a post of Disneyβs, as I felt we were going through very similar experiences at the same time.
, through her searching and warm tone, feels like that wise friend or older sister. Not telling you what to do but guiding you to make empowered decisions that prioritise peace, presence and wonder.Moving forward, I want to engage more with the written work of writers here on Substack and refine my own writing style.
It would be amazing for Adjoaβs perspective to grow to 500 subscribers in 2024 but regardless of whether we reach that number, my focus this year is on providing you with quality. Quality as in, I hope you would get excited when you see a new newsletter from Adjoaβs perspective in your email inbox.
Many of those 50 subscribed are my personal family and friends. I love you BUT I also hope that in 2024, Adjoaβs perspective would reach more people who also love our content.
No pressure here, but if you feel called to and you can, it would be amazing if you could share any posts that you enjoy with your family, friends and networks π.
In April of 2023, when this newsletter was still called adjoainghana, I began writing as a way to stay connected with one of my favourite places, Ghana π¬π. A lot of my writing was reflective, and what a beautiful chapter that was (you can still follow my Ghana travels here).
But in 2024, we are shifting focus from reflection to action. Action that hopefully ends with all of us being able to say confidently at the end of 2024 β¦
βI am living my best life.β
So, again, thank you SO very much for being here and sticking with me on this journey. You have been engaged, gracious and incredibly supportive and I hope to make you proud this year.
With lots of love,
Adjoa xox
