On day 2 we asked ourselves, who are we becoming? If you haven’t had a chance to read yesterday’s message, you can read it here. Hopefully, you also completed yesterday’s challenge where you described in detail the person you would be if you were not so afraid.
Now going back to day 1 we got clear about what it is that we are afraid of. If you haven’t had a chance to do this yet, I want you to take a moment to consider where, out of fear, you are:
Holding back?
Settling?
Abandoning yourself time and time again for an agenda that is not your own?
This challenge is not called the 9 DAYS NO FEAR challenge for nothing and so today, I want us to actually spend time in the discomfort of our fear.
I think it is an empowering idea for us to look at fear as an opportunity to go beyond and discover the truth that lies behind that restrictive, sinking, tense feeling.
The space between the feeling of fear and the surrendering of that fear is the moment.
The moment for you to feel the discomfort but also make a decision to act in spite of it. You see, the absence of fear is not a prerequisite to freedom. The absence of fear is not a prerequisite to you living the life you dream of.
What destiny, direction, mission or opportunity are you running away from because of fear?
Give yourself permission to feel the fear that you are holding within and the time and space to just be.
Give your mind permission to race in all the directions it needs to so that you can intentionally decide to stop the noise and take captive of your thoughts (2 Corinthians 10:5).
Sitting with your fear will give you an opportunity to get familiar with it; to be able to understand it better; or at least recognise it for what it is.
You can then change your narrative.
You can then change the story you have built around the fear …
I’ll never be able to do ….
I’ll never be able to be my true self …
I’ll never be able to express how I really feel …
I’ll never get an opportunity like that …
I’ll never be able to change this situation …
We could go on, listing the various stories we have allowed fear to make true.
It is time to just be and sit with our fears so that we can disempower their hold over us.
“Fear of a name increases fear of the thing itself.”
Dumbledore
Fill in the following gaps, maybe jot your response down on paper or type it in your notes app:
My fear has been created around [insert fear] because of the limiting belief that [insert limiting belief]. Today, I recognise that [insert fear] makes me feel [describe your feelings] but I know that this fear is just a story I am telling myself. I choose to run toward truth. The truth of who I am, the truth of who I want to be, the truth of what impact I desire to have, the truth of what is and is not good for me.
My fellow human, don’t be afraid to call out your fears by name. Take away the power of fear by getting familiar with it. It is often the uncertain and unfamiliar nature of fear that causes the fear in the first place.
With love and straight from the heart,
Adjoa 🧡
DO YOU NEED PRAYER?
I personally commit this challenge to Jehovah God in prayer because I can do nothing without Him. One of my favourite names for God is Jehovah Jireh meaning “The Lord will Provide.” And I believe the Lord will provide for you in your situation.
This is completely optional but if you would like me to add you to my personal prayer list I will pray for you everyday of this challenge. If you would like me to just pray generally for you I can do that. If you want me to pray more specifically for something you are placing your hope in the One Above for, I can do that too. All you have to do is direct message me on instagram to create a safe space and impose no pressure.
Regardless, I hope you will meet me here everyday for the next 9 DAYS. It’s my birthday in 9 DAYS also and so I will be sharing a special gift with each participant of the challenge at the end 🎁. Details of how to receive your gift will be given on DAY 9.
Thank you so much for all your support.
You are treasured.
You are special.
You have a purpose in this world.
Never forget that.
