It has been two months since I’ve written a substantive blog post on “Adjoa’s perspective” which I updated this blog to be named.
This is a piece on constantly evolving and learning as a human being.
When I started this blog (originally called adjoainghana) my purpose was to share my Ghana travel experiences with you. Through weekly newsletters, I documented the profound transformation I underwent during my time in Ghana. I had so much clarity in what I wanted to convey with each piece and about the community I wanted to create.
I believe the message of courage and embracing new beginnings was conveyed and that a small but significant community of us was created.
Then, there came a point where I wanted to try out making YouTube videos which led to me transitioning my content to broader topics outside of my travel experiences in Ghana. This is how Adjoa’s perspective was born.
While I don’t regret my re-branding, after a while, the content I was creating under “Adjoa’s perspective” no longer aligned.
Upon reflection, the number of changes I made within a short period of time were partly influenced by feeling the need to make more “helpful” content that would be relevant to online audiences.
I don’t think this is entirely bad but now I see that I lost sight of what originally drew me to create this blog. Documenting words that mean something to me.
Regardless of how many people “like, comment and subscribe” do I love my content?
In a bid to reclaim my sanity I withdrew from social media and found solace in subtracting these online identities from my life.
I had space. Space to connect with myself and life again.
The truth is the profound transformation I underwent during my time in Ghana is still present with me. It is still what guides me and inspires me.
I hope you’re still with me because this is leading somewhere 😆.
I have decided to pause this Substack indefinitely. It could be forever.
My initial posts mean so much to me and for the pure sake of that love, I am going to keep their magic alive.
I am soft launching a new project without announcing it to social media at the minute because I want to ensure I am doing it for me.
The words may be “helpful” to others but first and foremostly they’re important to me.
I encourage you to think about areas of your life that may have become performative for others rather than true for yourself.
You can reclaim them and make them your own again.
I am immensely grateful for each one of you.
For being here on this journey.
I truly feel connected as a community here and have grown to understand community and value community more because of you ❤️.
I will still be present on Substack because I genuinely love this platform for growing, learning and reading.
I subscribe to multiple life-enhancing Substack newsletters.
I would really encourage you to explore this platform for yourself if you do not already because you may find new ways to feel connected to community here. I myself will continue exploring here.
Maybe you might start your own Substack newsletter or maybe you already have one and you will continue to flourish with it.
May you be happy. May you be well. May you be at peace.
Sincerely yours,
Adjoa
This is so spot on for me...I am in the middle of writing my Substack surrounding this same topic...people pleasing + performance...great minds! Thank you for sharing + confirming my direction, Adjoa!
