A big part of what makes Ghana a home for me is the people I have met there.
Earlier this year I met Kia.
She radiated that kind of energy that is rare to come by. Beautiful. Genuine. Kind. Warm.
Although I did not know her for a long time, when we met and began talking, it was as if I had.
I had to make this week’s newsletter about Kia because in the time I knew her, she left an impact on me.
And from the many condolences and posts I have seen shared since her passing, she definitely left an impact on so many others.
She was a light. Her smile and laugh put you at ease and gave comfort.
She truly cared about others and cultivated peace and harmony.
She spoke to me about the distant places she had travelled to. I could tell she valued living life to its fullest.
I saw the beauty of a mother’s love as she went everywhere with her beloved son.
Thank you Kia for supporting others so selflessly. In the glimpse of what I shared with you about my journey, you were encouraging and you believed in my hopes for the future.
Kia was so loved and her passing from this world was so sudden and unexpected that the pain of her loved ones is unimaginable.
When I heard the news, I was in shock. How could it be that one moment we were smiling together and saying we would see each other again and the next you were gone.
I have experienced the loss of a loved one and what that taught me was to never be too busy for the ones you love or for the things you love doing. It is easier said than done. And that’s the catch. We think we have more time than what we do.
Thank you Kia for being part of my journey, even though it was brief. You helped me see the importance of living an authentic life. A life of integrity. Where words and actions align. You helped me to remember that life is what we choose to make it, and that is our power.
With eternal gratitude and love,
Adjoa

It was a heavy week with the passing of a special woman I was blessed to have met in Ghana. This week’s post is dedicated to her. My thoughts are with anyone going through a difficult situation 🧡. May you find peace and comfort in your own time. May you have the space to feel and heal. I know it is not easy.
If you would like to support Kia’s family, including her 6-year-old son Sai, and learn more about Kia’s impact, please visit the gofundme set up by her family here.
